Social Workers with a Passion, Beth Lagg and Becky Schnaible

In the purest sense, social workers help people help themselves. People of every age. People coping with challenges in every stage of their lives. Social Workers help their clients adjust to changes in their lives and they advocate for and help their clients get resources that can improve their well-being.

Beth and Becky are social workers with a passion at Liberty Commons/Broad Reach Healthcare in Chatham, MA.

A social worker at Liberty Commons since 2013, Beth Lagg assists residents to make the transition to their new home while ensuring that their social, emotional, and comfort needs are met. She also spends time with her clients’ families who are also coping with the lifestyle change of their loved ones. Whether their stay is short- or long-term, her clients know they can depend on Beth to help them adjust and become familiar with their new home.

Before joining the staff as social workers at Liberty Commons, for more than a dozen years Beth was a nursing home activities director. Then she decided to return to school to earn her social work license.

Beth explained, “I haven’t ruled out going back to school again to get my master’s degree in social work, but for now, I want to stay right where I am. I love it here at Liberty Commons. At the end of the day, I feel very happy that I have done my best to help my residents and families. That sense of satisfaction is very rewarding.”

Becky Schnaible has practically grown up at Liberty Commons. When still in high school, she helped residents clean out their closets and organize their living spaces. After graduation, she attended The University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where she earned her degree in social work. She worked at Liberty Commons as an activities assistant as well as a social worker for long-term patients. After six years, Becky moved to Oregon, but she realized she missed Cape Cod and wanted to return.

“I always remembered Liberty Commons as a good place to work,” Becky said. “The management at Liberty Commons want the best for the residents and their families … and they always treat their employees well too.”

Becky is again working with long-term residents. She wants to be sure they are doing well, are happy, and feel comfortable with Liberty Commons as their home. She wants more than anything to help make her clients’ day as fulfilling as possible.

Becky added, “It is important to me to know that I am making a difference. I know that here at Liberty Commons, my opinions are valued and that I am respected. This translates to better care for the residents, and in the end, that’s what we are passionate about.”
