Leadership – Meet Richard Bane

Richard Bane, Massachusetts Senior Care Network, The Aurum NetworkRichard Bane has more than 30 years of leadership at BaneCare and believes he has unraveled the secret to providing the best care for people, both residents and staff.

“My philosophy is that we care for our residents as if they are our own family members,” said Richard.

His father George Bane founded BaneCare after purchasing a nursing facility in 1959. Richard took the helm in 1983 and has risen to prominence in the skilled nursing and assisted living fields of Massachusetts.

An essential part of Richard’s approach is consistency and stability in care, which depends on the same staff members on board for the residents entire stay.

What we do is very personal, very hands-on,” said Richard. “There has to be a level of trust and consistency.”

Staff members are the key to quality services so Richard fosters a culture of professionalism for his 1,400 employees, who he refers to as his colleagues. He believes that by providing his colleagues with a culture of support, professional development and mutual respect, his staff provides a quality of service that is based on kindness, attention and compassion in meeting the needs of his residents.

Richard is a graduate of Dartmouth College (A.B., Economics, summa cum laude) and Harvard Business School (M.B.A. with Distinction).

A founding member of the The Aurum Network, Richard is a past chairman of the Massachusetts Senior Care Association, the state’s largest professional provider group, and  is currently the chairman of its Payment Reform Task Force. He is also a director of Eastern Bank, a trustee of North Shore Medical Center and served for a decade as a Salem State College trustee.
